1961 seen the importation of the purebred stallion Glenearn Brigadier and mare Penny Farthing by Mrs H.B. Ronalds of the Barrymoor Stud in Pakenham, Victoria.

Glenearn Brigadier, foaled in 1954 by Glenearn Ambassador, out of Glenearn Bessie was bred by J D Hay of the Glenearn Stud at Bridge of Earn, Scotland.

Penny Farthing, foaled in 1958 by Glenfinnan, out of Penny Piece was breed by Donald R Lamont.

It is said that Mrs Ronalds originally import the two Highland Ponies to use in the breeding of her Australian Ponies, with the goal of adding a more bone and substance into her breeding program.

In 1962 Penny Farthing produced the purebred colt, Barrymoor Pibroch and in 1967 the purebred filly, Barrymoor Bluebell, both by Glenearn Brigadier. (unfortunately both offspring have no recorded progeny of their own)

Penny Fathering did not produce any other recorded progeny during the 60’s but Glenearn Brigadier went on to sire 13 additional offspring out of APSB registered, Australian Pony mares.

The 13 offspring sired by Glenearn Brigadier in the 60’s, consisted of 4 colts and 9 fillies bred between 4 different studs within Victoria;

The Barrymoor Stud in Pakenham, the Erinskay Stud, the Stormont Stud and the Whinmere Stud in Officer.

All the offspring produced by Glenearn Brigadier in the 60’s went on to leave their mark on the Australian Pony breed through APSB, some still even have descendant alive today, in addition 7 of the fillies would later on kick start the Australian Highland Breed Up Program.

I will be saving that information, though, for a future blog post!
